FILM JOURNEY

FILM BLOG AND FORUM

This blog is intended to be just for me, but anyone who stumbles upon it is more than welcome to add his or her thoughts.

In the summer of 1972, I was in New York. I was about to transfer from Columbia University, where I was a math major of no distinction, to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where I intended to study film. I had fallen in love with movies during my two years at Columbia. During that summer, I jotted down notes on the films I saw in the numerous art-house cinemas that existed at that time, like the Thalia (now Symphony Space), with its oddly shaped floor in which the first seven rows rose in an incline up to the screen, as well, of course, as the venerable Muscum of Modern Art.

I stumbled upon these notes recently, and I thought I would include them in this blog.  They aren't half bad. Any comments from today are in brackets.

The notebook only lasted for one summer, but I thought I would give it another try.  I'm streaming a lot of movies now, and I'd like to memorialize my thoughts, however fleeting.  Writing down my thoughts helps imprint the film in my brain.

So here goes. This page contains my most recent posts. For a deep dive, read the Notes from 1972 and the Contemporary Notes.
