Commentary:

I only caught the last hour of this and it was much better than I had remembered from the last time I saw it. The plot is about his romance with a lady aboard ship. The plot is cliched. Conveniently his wife dies and her husband dies. But it is executed by Walsh with much finesse. Particularly memorable is the scene where Peck reads the last letter from his dead wife. As his voice is heard, the camera pans up to the mantle to a picture of them, then back to him to a shot of the piano and a picture ship -- as the letter talks of their never being at home together. A beautiful moment.
