Le Chant du Styrene (1959) directed by Alain Resnais

Commentary:
The last industrial film directed by Resnais, it shows the process of manufacturing molded plastic. The narration is entirely in rhymed couplets.
This film was made in the same year Resnais directed Hiroshima Mon Amour. It actually bears some thematic connection to his usual obsession with time and memory. Instead of showing the process from beginning to end, he reverses the chronology, beginning with the final products, proceeding backwards to the conclusion in the oil fields. The film has some surprisingly beautiful images, enhanced by a lush score by Pierre Barbaud.
