Commentary:

Surprisingly good for late Curtiz. Alan Ladd has a young son who became mute when he saw his mother die in a fire started by Union soldiers. He gets involved with a battle of a woman to protect her farm against a rich sheep rancher.

The story is predictable, too predictable, but it's nice and a creditable job all round. Nothing to be embarrassed about but then again it's nothing great. The emotions are more tear-jerking than deeply felt.
